Consider the Rainbow

After judging the Earth with the flood, God set the rainbow in the sky as a perpetual reminder of the covenant He was making with man.

11 Thus I establish My covenant with you: Never again shall all flesh be cut off by the waters of the flood; never again shall there be a flood to destroy the earth.”
12  And God said: “This is the sign of the covenant which I make between Me and you, and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations:
13  I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth.
– Genesis 9:11-13

God has revealed Himself in what he has created.

For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse…
– Romans 1:20

I have been thinking about the Rainbow lately.  According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, a rainbow is defined as,” an arc or circle that exhibits in concentric bands the colors of the spectrum and that is formed opposite the sun by the refraction and reflection of the sun’s rays in raindrops, spray, or mist.”

So as light from the sun passes through airborne water, colors are revealed that otherwise are not visible to the eye.  There are seven colors: violet, blue, cyan, green, yellow, orange, and red.  The first interesting thing about this is that the number seven holds significant prophetic meaning to God.  For example,  God instituted the Sabbath on the seventh day reflecting the day of rest after six days of creation. The number seven represents completion or perfection.  The second interesting thing is that the bands of color are concentric.  In other words, the bands of color are in alignment and they maintain visual harmony with each other.  The colors are in harmony with each other.  Each color contributes significantly to the beauty and majesty of the rainbow.  I can’t imagine a rainbow without blue, or yellow or… any of the colors normal to a Rainbow.  The rainbow would be significantly diminished if just one color were missing.

God originally set the rainbow in the sky as a reminder that He would not judge the Earth with a flood again.  However, I believe He has revealed a message in the rainbow that is needed for our time.  I believe the colors of the rainbow are a prophetic picture of the peoples of the Earth.  These colors are manifested individually as the Light is reflected through air borne water.  The Light is the Life of God flowing from His presence.

We see in Genesis 1:26 that God created man in His own image.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
–  Genesis 1:26

We can conclude that within the genetic code of Adam and Eve contained the potential of all future people. And later we see that there were eight people on Noah’s ark that survived the flood. Within those eight people contained the genetic potential of all future races that would populate the earth.

Based on Genesis 1:26, we can conclude that all peoples and all races on the Earth today carry in some way a part of the image of God. In a similar way, each color of the rainbow reflects some aspect of the image of the Sun’s Light.

However, just like the rainbow, the Sun’s Light is not fully represented if any color is missing.  So there we have it.  Every race on the earth needs all the other races of the Earth to fully reflect the “image” of God.  If just one race of people is excluded then the full reflection of God prophetically is incomplete.

He who says he is in the light, and hates his brother, is in darkness until now.  He who loves his brother abides in the light, and there is no cause for stumbling in him.
–  1 John 2:9-10

I believe there is a sinister attempt by demonic forces to create racial wars and hatred today in unprecedented ways. We must pray that these demonic strategies will fail and that the Light of God will break forth revealing the beauty and interdependence of all people.
